6 Days Tour from Fes to Marrakech Via Merzouga Desert

DAY 1 : FEZ sightseeing:

The first step of the day will be to have breakfast at your Riad, and after that, the real fun can begin! Fez is a city with no shortage of the amazing sites it offers for its visitors. Starting with the old Medina, you will get to explore important cultural and historical sites such as: the oldest university in the world, Al Karaouine mosque and University, as well as the iconic Chouara leather tanneries and the Najjarine fountain in the heart of the Medina. Of course that’s not all. After lunch, we will leave the old Medina to head to the Royal Palace that’s famous for the stunning beauty of its gates. Then we will visit a very special quarter of Fez, « the Mellah », where you can delve into the unique atmosphere and architecture of the Moroccan Jewish quarters. Following that, will be a stop at the famous Pottery Cooperative of Fez. At this point of the day we will take you to one of the city’s many fortresses in order to catch the sunset on a beautiful, scenic, wide-ranging view of the city. Last but not least, you will be provided with an overnight stay that allows you to experience the genuine Riads of the old Medina.

DAY 2 : FEZ- ifrane- medilt- sahara desert :

We will start the day by saying goodbye to the beautiful Fez, to head south towards the Atlas region. The first stop along the way will be the gorgeous Ifrane. Ifrane is a small town that stands out for its unique architecture and weather, the two elements that made it known as the « Switzerland of Morocco ». A neighboring town to Ifrane is Azrou, where we will stop by to explore the largest cedar forest of Morocco, and observe wild macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. Then we will start our journey south towards the mountains of the high Atlas, passing through small villages and cities such as: Timehdit, Zaida and Midelt. One of the cities we will meet along the way is Errachidia. One thing you will notice about Errachidia is the breathtaking landscape filled with diverse greenery, more specifically the iconic palm trees that the region is most known for. After Errachidia, comes the city of Arfoud, also called the capital of fossils. The reason behind this name is the existence of abundant fossils under its ground, that prove the existence of a sea covering the entire area in a past far gone. At this point the main road ceases to exist, and you will find yourself surrounded by the Sahara Dunes when you reach the village of Merzouga. That’s how you’ll know you’ve reached the heart of the Moroccan Sahara Desert. You will spend the night at a hotel near the dunes where dinner and breakfast will be provided.

DAY 3 : MERZOUGA sightseeing :

Day three will start with an expedition to Erg Chebbi, which is one of the many large seas of dunes in Morocco formed by wind-blown sand. After that, we will make a stop at the small town of Khamlia. Now something very unique you will see in this area (that you really may not find anywhere else) is the people living in some really unexpected, hard-to-reach places. The Nomads of the area follow a very simple and minimalistic lifestyle. However, they always welcome their guests with utmost hospitality. Another thing you will explore during this expedition is the old mines situated near the Moroccan-Algerian borders. These mines were opened years ago during the time of the French colonization, and they have been closed since the end of that period. For lunch, we will head back to the main town to try one of the area’s unique delicacies  » Al Madfouna », also known as « Berber Pizza ». After that, get ready for a breathtaking experience that will inevitably stick with you forever. I am of course talking about the Moroccan camel trekking experience. You will be accompanied by professional people who have gone through the desert many times. And you of course don’t want to miss the beautiful view of the sun setting over the Saharian dunes. The camel trekking will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes, after which you will arrive to the camp where you will spend the night in the middle of the desert, after enjoying your dinner accompanied by traditional Berber music.

We will start this day by a breakfast meal, after which we will leave to Rissani city. Which was considered a center for travelers from Toumboukto to Marrakech, and an important place for the commerce of salt. We will then explore the biggest market place of the area, after which we will resume our journey in a semi-desert location, finally reaching the outstanding oasis of Tinghir. It wouldn’t be a stretch to describe this place as one of the most beautiful locations in Morocco. One of its remarkable characteristics is the Todra gorges. These gorges, that are extremely narrow and as high as 300 meters, attract climbers from all over the world. Our next stop will be the valley of Dades, then Dameskina, the city of roses. Now you may be interested in observing the process of the production of goods derived from natural roses, so we can pay a quick visit to one of the many Rose cooperatives there. We will continue our trip, through « the road of the thousand Kasbahs », to finally arrive at our final destination of the day, the city of Ouarzazate. This is one of the most important cities in the south of Morocco, and that is mostly due to its big cinematic production, such as: Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Troy, The Mummy.. . After you have a tour of the city, we will head to our hotel where you will enjoy dinner and breakfast the next day as well.

As usual the day will start with a good breakfast meal, after which we will leave to « Ait Ben Heddou Kasbah ». You will explore the beauty of this kasbah, which is considered the queen of Kasbahs, and a well-known UNESCO world heritage. Past Ait Ben Heddou, we will come across the beautiful roads of the « Kasbah of Talouet », which used to be tracks used to travel to Marrakech. This will lead us to « Tzin Tichca », which is a very high mountain pass (2260 meters) leading to Marrakech. You can have as many breaks as you need to take pictures of the stunning views from up there. After lunch, we will arrive to the beautiful Marrakech, where you will spend the night in a traditional Riad.

DAY 6 : MARRAKECH sightseeing:

We will start our exploration of the red city, Marrakesh, after having breakfast. As the epithet indicates, Marrakesh’s buildings are all colored in the reddish shade, which is something unique to this city only. This gorgeous city will take your breath away with its many gardens, that are watered through an underground watering system set in place by the Almoravids and Saharian nomads in the 11th century. We will spend the day exploring the city’s most iconic attractions, such as: Menara, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia Place, the Koutoubia, Majorelle garden, and some traditional souks. Perhaps one of Marrakesh’s most vibrant, lively, and famous locations is the square « Djemaa El fna ». You may consider this square the beating heart of Marrakesh, thanks to all the life activities and arts going on like music, dancing, storytelling, juggling and snake-charming. Let’s not fail to mention all the artisanals products that genuine Merchants are offering for sale in « Djemaa El Fna ». You will of course have the opportunity to walk by yourself and experience first-hand the true Marrakeshi experience. You will also be provided with overnight accommodation in the same Riad as a night before.
